Dr. Imran from CAB clinches the title of "My Favorite Foreign Teacher" in 2019

Recently, the 2019 " Foreign teachers and I" national essay competition and competition for "My favorite foreign teacher" activities came to an end. Dr. Imran Haider Shamsi, a full time Associate Professor from the Institute of Crop Sciences, College of Agriculture and Biotechnology (CAB) of Zhejiang University, was selected as "My favorite foreign teacher" in 2019.

The candidates for "My favorite foreign teachers" were selected from the whole country. Associate Professor Dr. Imran from the Institute of Crop Sciences, College of Agriculture and Biotechnology of Zhejiang University won the title and secured position in top ten.

Dr. Imran got his doctoral degree in Zhejiang University and now work in the University as an associate professor. He has been actively engaging in teaching and undertaking the construction of English MOOC course online. His international teaching style, teaching methodology with joy, debating and discussions have won the significant recognition from peer teachers and students. He has won the 2016 excellent teaching award from Zhejiang University, and won the title of "excellent class teacher/mentor" twice. In June 2016, he won the grand prize of the 9th young teachers' teaching skills competition in Zhejiang Province and in August 2016, he won the first prize at the third national teaching competition for young university teachers in whole China.

Being a foreign expert Dr. Imran is also working for raising the internationalization standards, Belt and road initiative programs in the line of government policy and for China-Pakistan cooperation etc. He was awarded the Honorary citizen nomination award of Hangzhou city by the Hangzhou Municipal People's government and the West Lake Friendship Award by the Zhejiang Provincial People's government, which is a top level award for the foreign experts working in Zhejiang province. He was among the foreign experts' representatives working in China to participate in the reception for foreign experts on the celebration of 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, in the great hall of people in Beijing.

Associate Professor Dr. Imran oversees the Crop Science Belt and Road international class in the CAB. He wants to share his own learning experience to inspire more international students and help them adapting the learning and cultural environment to thrive in China.

The competition for My favorite foreign teacher is sponsored by the foreign talent research center of the Ministry of Science and Technology. These activities aim to highlight the outstanding achievements made by foreign experts in culture and education, optimize the environment of foreign talent and strengthen the international community. Furthemore, the organizers hope to strengthen international  talent exchange and cooperation, tell the true story of China, and spread China's voice to the world.
