ZJU and Cornell University sign agreement online

On Sept. 3, Zhejiang University and Cornell University signed an agreement remotely. Present at the virtual agreement signing ceremony were WU Zhaohui, president of Zhejiang University, Martha E. Pollack, president of Cornell University, HE Lianzhen, vice president of Zhejiang University, and Wendy Wolford, vice provost for International Affairs of Cornell University.

“We are currently facing an unprecedented public health crisis. However, this coronavirus pandemic not only poses a formidable challenge but also opens up a unique opportunity. It impels us to ponder over conventional educational patterns and makes us realize more profoundly that mankind is a community of a shared future and that only with concerted efforts can universities around the globe triumph over adversity,” said WU Zhaohui. 

Martha E Pollack expressed her sincere gratitude to Zhejiang University for hosting Cornell exchange students on Haining International Campus for the Fall 2020 semester. “Cornell University has a long history of engagement with Chinese universities. Cornell faculty and students have benefited greatly from the partnership with Zhejiang University. We are delighted to explore new ways to collaborate in the changing world,” said Martha E Pollack.

Later, HE Lianzhen and Wendy Wolford signed the Student Exchange Agreement and renewed the Memorandum of Agreement on behalf of Zhejiang University and Cornell University respectively.

After the signing ceremony, HE Lianzhen and Wendy Wolford held an in-depth discussion regarding how to further cooperation between the two institutions. Both sides agreed to continue to promote the joint seed funding scheme, expand new fields and incubate influential flagship projects. They also exchanged ideas on sharing and co-developing online courses and carrying out research cooperation regarding the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
