2020-11-06

On November 1, the first-phase facility of the headquarters of the First Affiliated Hospital of the Zhejiang University School of Medicine (FAHZU) was officially put into use on the 73rd anniversary of the founding of FAHZU.

It took six years to complete the construction of the first-phase facility of the FAHZU headquarters, which covers an area of 202 mu (approximately 33 acres). It has 1,500 beds and has a capacity of 8,000 outpatient visits on a daily basis.

HUANG Jianfa, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee, announced the inauguration of the FAHZU headquarters.

“I hope that FAHZU will strive to promote its core competitiveness, boost its medical services and set a shining example in meeting the national and regional needs, by taking advantage of the opening of the headquarters. Meanwhile, it will commit itself to building a first-rate hospital in an innovation-driven way,” said REN Shaobo, chairman of the Zhejiang University Council.

With the design concept of “translational medicine, nature, public sharing and practical functions”, the FAHZU headquarters is interconnected with Zhejiang University Medical Center to achieve a seamless synergy between clinical practice and medical research. The first PET/MR in Zhejiang Province will be put into use; the fourth-generation “da Vinci” surgical robot will further improve the precision and quality of surgery; the automatic drug dispenser will complete each prescription in as little as 8 seconds; and the 3,900-meter trolley, the 1,700-meter pneumatic tube system, 18 automated guided vehicles and the “smart logistics” system composed of drones are taking the lead in the world, and goods can be efficiently and safely transported inside and outside the hospital.

Meanwhile, FAHZU cooperates with Alibaba Group to provide patients with convenient services by making the most of cutting-edge technologies. With merely a smart phone, patients can get instantaneous reminders in the whole process of guided medical treatment. The “FAHZU Cloud” and “Future Hospital” system, jointly created by FAHZU and Alibaba Group, can calculate massive dynamic data in real time, centralize the management and pooling of patient information and medical resources, and align information about patients and medical resources in an efficient and intelligent way.
