Forum held on Urban Energy Internet Development and Cooperation Under the Goal of Achieving Peak Carbon Dioxide Emissions and Carbon Neutrality

On July 16, the Forum on Urban Energy Internet Development and Cooperation Under the Goal of Achieving Peak Carbon Dioxide Emissions and Carbon Neutrality was held on Haining International Campus, Zhejiang University. The forum gathered over 200 participants from Tsinghua University, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University and key renewable energy enterprises.

Prof. QIU Aici, a member of Chinese Academy of Engineering and honorary dean of the School of Electrical Engineering at Xi’an Jiaotong University, delivered a keynote speech. She shared with the participants her insightful reflections on the development of a resilient power system to fulfill the goal of peak carbon dioxide emissions and carbon neutrality from the perspective of the current challenges to the power system and the trend of the resilient power system.

Prof. WEI Wei, vice president of Zhejiang University City College and executive vice dean of Zhejiang University Polytechnic Institute, elaborated on the development and challenges of the high-ratio renewable energy grid, China’s key layout in the domain of renewable energy, and potential solutions in the renewable energy grid and the main grid.

Prof. SHI Jingli, a researcher of the Energy Research Institute of the National Development and Reform Commission, introduced the current development of renewable energy. She pointed out that it is necessary to establish a multi-guarantee mechanism for grid connection and expand the application of renewable energy power and recyclable energy power.

According to Prof. GAO Feng, vice dean of Energy Internet Research Institute of Tsinghua University, we should make use of Internet thinking to develop new forms of energy Internet business and rely on systematic thinking to realize multiple energy synergy and energy storage sharing as well as centralized and distributed collaboration. To build a new power system, we should promote the development of energy Internet via the fusion of “technology and mechanism” and establish a new type of power system.

Dr. ZHENG Houqing, deputy chief engineer of the State Grid Energy Research Institute Co. Ltd., talked about key issues as to how digital energy economy boosts the construction of a new type of power system in terms of digitalization.

Mr. ZHANG Jian, director of Jiaxing Development and Reform Commission, introduced the basis and goal of Jiaxing’s economic and social development as well as the practice and exploration concerning Jiaxing’s energy development and the construction of urban energy Internet.

After keynote speeches, three sub-forums were held on “Energy Transformation and Development of Emerging Industries”, “Theory and Practice in the Renewable Power System”, and “Demand-side Low Carbon Pathways in the Context of the New Power System”. Participants conducted in-depth discussions on research progress and industrial development with a view to resolving tough problems.
