ZJU welcomes new graduate students

On Sept. 12, Zhejiang University held the Opening Assembly to welcome the newest cohort of graduate students on Zijingang Campus. More than 12000 new graduate students attended the ceremony online and offline, marking the official start of their unique intellectual journey at ZJU.

Zhejiang University Council Chairman REN Shaobo, President WU Zhaohui and other university leaders were present at the ceremony.

“Today’s youth are striving to forge ahead courageously and vigorously and making great achievements,” said President Wu in his welcoming address. He inspired the incoming students to live up to the promise of their youth and the expectations of the times we live in.

“In the face of unprecedented challenge, I hope that you can shoulder the responsibility and aspire to be a pioneer in the scientific innovation and in service to the nation and the world,” Wu said.   

 

QI Yijun (’01, plant pathology), professor of Tsinghua University, gave a speech on behalf of alumni. He encouraged the students to contribute all they can, challenge their boundaries, aim high, and do things pragmatically and honestly by upholding the motto of “seeking truth, pursuing innovation”.

At the Opening Assembly, members of Chinese Academy of Science and Chinese Academy of Engineering and representatives of distinguished professors also expressed their hopes to the new graduates via video link, encouraging them to take every opportunity the University offers to make a difference in the world.
