On June 30, WU Zhaohui, president of Zhejiang University, and Hideaki Omura, governor of Aichi Prefecture, signed a MoU on cooperation and exchange. Also present at the ceremony were CAE Fellow ZHENG Jingyang from the College of Energy Engineering, LI Min, director of the Office of Global Engagement, and Prof. YANG Geng, vice dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering. This is the first time that Zhejiang University has entered into partnership with a Japanese government agency.

Hideaki Omura recalled his visit to Zhejiang University in 2019, saying that that visit left a very deep impression on him. He expressed his great delight in holding an online meeting and signing an MoU with President WU Zhaohui. “The signing of the MoU between Aichi Prefecture and Zhejiang University will not only play a vital role in promoting cooperation between the two sides, but it will also be of tremendous significance to exchange and cooperation between Japan and China. I look forward to expanding the scale of exchange and improving the level of cooperation, with innovation, entrepreneurship, academia and student exchanges as the core,” Hideaki Omura pointed out.

WU Zhaohui expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Hideaki Omura for his generous support in the cooperation between the two sides. “While striding towards the forefront of world-class universities, Zhejiang University has been unswervingly adhering to its development in a global and open manner. Japan is an important partner country in Zhejiang University’s global cooperation network, and we look forward to strengthening cooperation with government agencies, universities and enterprises in Aichi Prefecture in the fields of technological innovation and talent cultivation, thereby making more contributions to promoting the friendly relationship between China and Japan,” said WU Zhaohui.

After the MoU-signing ceremony, HE Lianzhen put forward some valuable suggestions on cooperation in the next phase, including strengthening people-to-people exchange, deepening university-enterprise cooperation, and promoting partnership with Nagoya University.
