ZJU Green Origin Association wins UN PRME Award

2022-07-10

On June 4, the Green Origin Association (GOA) of Zhejiang University received the 2022 PRME Student Recognition Award for excellence in SDG impact. Winning the award out of 300+ student associations worldwide is a welcomed recognition of their excellent performance advancing sustainability practices and responsible management education at ZJU.

During the Award Ceremony, PRME officials introduced the outstanding achievements of the GOA in practicing environmental protection in the past year: over 1,000 volunteers spent more than 20,000 hours on the garbage recycling activities; 28 environmental activities were held with more than 10,000 participants; more than 30 environmental education programs were carried out in primary schools; more than 150 birds were rescued and protected, etc.

Winning the award was a huge encouragement for the whole team. Just as YAN Xinyu, member of GOA put it, “I once thought that sustainable development was a nation-/corporate-level issue, and students have little power to promote it. But after joining GOA, I feel strongly that we together have great power. When we visit schools and communities to lecture on environmental protection, when we travel to mountains and deserts to help with vegetation, when we walk into the sewage treatment plants and electric power companies to learn and promote the SDGs, we are making a difference.” LI Hongyuan, another member of GOA shared her excitement, “I feel so proud of my fellows. We can, and we will make more changes happen!”
