Main Building of Zhejiang University Library officially opens

On January 20, 2024, the main building of Zhejiang University Library was officially inaugurated, marking the beginning of a new chapter for Zhejiang University.

Present at the unveiling ceremony were REN Shaobo, chairman of the Zhejiang University Council; Du Jiangfeng, president of Zhejiang University; ZHU Shiqiang, vice chairman of the Zhejiang University Council; and vice presidents WANG Lizhong and HUANG Xianhai.

The library stands as a significant symbol of cultural development and serves as a vital space for nourishing the nation’s spirit and instilling cultural confidence. As a treasure trove of knowledge, Zhejiang University Library assumes a pivotal role in shaping campus and social culture, providing extensive support for the high-quality development of talent cultivation, scientific research, social services, cultural inheritance and innovation, as well as international exchange and cooperation.

“The official opening of the main building represents one of the remarkable achievements in fostering the growth of faculty and students alike and ensuring the university’s first-class development. It is a bold stroke in the course of the university’s reform and development,” said REN Shaobo. He expressed his anticipation that the library would carry forward the university’s time-honored glory, chart new breakthroughs in its development strategy, and advance services, thus ushering in a new chapter in the top-notch development of the library.

The unveiling ceremony witnessed generous donations from ZHANG Yongquan, a senior professor in liberal arts at Zhejiang University; LI Xinwan, curator of Shanghai Jiao Tong University Library; Jie Xing, Abbot of Jinshan Temple; LI Guosheng, director of Yunnan Academy for the Protection and Inheritance of Four Treasures of the Study; and ZHOU Gonggan, chairman of Zhejiang Jianzhou Biology Holdings Ltd.

Following the ceremony, participants, including leaders from the Hangzhou National Version Museum, Zhejiang Library and sister university libraries, representatives from the main building’s design and construction units, personnel in charge of relevant departments and schools at Zhejiang University, as well as alumni representatives, visited the newly-inaugurated main building of Zhejiang University Library.
