The 2024 Global Research Immersion Program for Young Scientists (Grips 2024) came to a close on August 16 at Zhejiang University, marking the end of a transformative journey for its international cohort.

DU Jiangfeng, President of Zhejiang University, and SHU Peidong, Deputy Director General of the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education, attended the closing ceremony of the Grips. ZHOU Jianghong, Vice President of Zhejiang University, presented the Poster Distinction Award to the winners.

DU Jiangfeng extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Grips students and expressed his deepest gratitude to all mentors and staff. “The variety of research topics covered in the Grips reflects the interdisciplinary nature of today’s scientific challenges. The visits to cutting-edge tech companies in the Yangtze River Delta region and the immersive cultural experience provided ample opportunities for you to see China with your own eyes,” DU remarked. He emphasized the importance of international collaboration, adding, “One of the most enriching experiences has been the opportunity for you to interact and cooperate with your peers from different parts of the world. Through teamwork, you have learned to appreciate diverse approaches to problem-solving and developed mutual respect that transcends cultural differences.” He also encouraged the Grips students to provide creative solutions to address the challenges the world faces today, using the skills and insights they’ve gained during the program.
SHU Peidong echoed these sentiments, highlighting the program’s focus on innovation and cultural exchange. “The Grips program brought together the innovative and cultural assets in the Yangtze River Delta region. It was not only a meeting of minds but also a profound cultural exchange,” SHU commented. He expected that young students from around the globe would contribute wisdom and power to global technological development. He also extended an invitation to youths from diverse countries to explore China and the Yangtze River Delta region, immersing themselves in the rich history of Chinese culture and the dynamic development of contemporary China.

During the ceremony, student representatives showcased their impressive academic achievements, while mentors GU Zhen from Zhejiang University and CHEN Huilin from Nanjing University shared their experience. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of Grips certificates and Zhejiang University ceremoniously passing the baton to the next host university. Attendees were also treated to students’ poster presentations and performances.
