President of the Korea Foundation visits Zhejiang University

2025-07-16

On June 18, Zhejiang University welcomed Mr. KIM Gheewhan, President of the Korea Foundation, and his delegation for an official visit. Vice President HUANG Xianhai met with the guests and hosted discussions aimed at deepening ties between ZJU and its South Korean partners.

HUANG provided an overview of ZJU’s academic strengths and cooperation with South Korea. He emphasized that the upcoming 2025-2026 China-Japan-South Korea Cultural Exchange Year presents a timely opportunity to expand and enrich educational and cultural partnerships across East Asia.

“We look forward to building closer, more dynamic ties with South Korean institutions via a wide spectrum of academic exchanges, study-abroad programs, and cultural events,” HUANG said. “By attracting more outstanding South Korean students to Zhejiang University, we hope to foster greater mutual understanding and cultivate the next generation of ambassadors for friendship between the two nations.”

KIM expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome and remarked on the longstanding relationship between the Korea Foundation and the ZJU Center for Korean Studies. He shared his aspirations for the visit to spark new opportunities for collaboration — beyond traditional fields such as Korean studies and history — to include cutting-edge areas like smart cities, digital innovation, and integrated industry-academia-research partnerships.

“Zhejiang University and the broader Zhejiang region are well-positioned to be leaders in high-tech cooperation,” KIM said. “We look forward to working together to promote shared progress in science, technology, and cultural understanding.”

The meeting was also attended by representatives from the Office of Global Engagement, the School of History, and the Development and Liaison Office.
