On July 23, a delegation led by Mr. Lo Desmond Consul-General of Singapore in Shanghai, visited Zhejiang University to deepen academic and research collaboration. Vice President ZHOU Jianghong met with the guests.

During the meeting, ZHOU shared updates on ZJU’s academic growth and its fruitful partnerships with Singaporean institutions. In recent years, ZJU has actively joined forces with universities and research organizations in Singapore to carry out joint talent cultivation programs and collaborative research, producing a series of notable outcomes.
This year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Singapore. ZHOU underscored ZJU’s intention to build even closer ties with Singaporean counterparts. He called for accelerating the establishment of joint research platforms, promoting industrial upgrading, and contributing “China–Singapore wisdom” to addressing global challenges. He also stressed the importance of two-way mobility for faculty and students, expanding joint training programs for high-level talent in multiple fields, and offering a variety of short- and long-term exchange programs to promote academic and cultural understanding.

Lo Desmond highlighted the longstanding friendship between China and Singapore, noting that in 2023, President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong jointly announced the elevation of bilateral ties to an all-round high-quality future-oriented partnership. Over the years, the two countries have achieved significant progress in trade, technology, and culture. Looking ahead, Lo expressed the hope of expanding collaboration in emerging areas such as the digital economy, green economy, and biomedicine, and looked forward to Chinese and Singaporean universities leveraging their academic strengths for deeper, more impactful collaboration.
