Vice Secretary of the Party Committee
REN Shaobo Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Zhejiang University

Dr. REN Shaobo assumed the role as Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Zhejiang University on March 20, 2019.

Dr. Ren is a long-serving member of the university leadership. He served as Deputy Secretary of ZJU's Party Committee from 2009 to 2015 and became Vice President in January 2016. Then, in his tenure as Executive Vice President, Dr. Ren oversaw campus management, real estate, capital construction, logistics, security, informatization, and education & research in humanities and social sciences, etc. 

Dr. Ren received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Zhejiang University, a master’s degree and a PhD in economics from the same university. While working as deputy director at Office of the Presidents, he completed a six-month visit at Valparaiso University in 2004. His expertise is focused on economics and higher education management.

ZHANG Hongjian Vice Secretary of the Party Committee

Professor Dr. ZHANG Hongjian was named as Vice Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Zhejiang University in October 2018. He oversees the management of human resources, continuing education, operational asset, logistics and the Architectural Design and Research Institute of ZJU, etc.

His previous positions include executive dean of the College of Information Science and Engineering, director of the Department of Human Resources, and director of the Organization Department at ZJU. 

Dr. ZHANG received his bachelor’s and masters’ degrees in Chemical Automation from ZJU in 1982 and 1985 respectively, as well as a doctorate in Thermal Engineering from Shanghai Institute of Mechanical Engineering in 1988.  

Dr. ZHANG’s expertise is focused on Measurement Technology and Automation.



ZHU Shiqiang Vice Secretary of the Party Committee

Professor Dr. ZHU Shiqiang has been Vice Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Zhejiang Universitysince January 2016. He is responsible for the management of ZJU's Zhoushan Campus and the Ningbo Institute of Technology. He currently also serves as director of the newly founded Zhejiang Lab

From June 2014 to January 2016, he was assistant president of ZJU and vice dean of the Ocean College. Previously, Dr. ZHU had assumed important positions in several municipal governments of Zhejiang province, including deputy mayor of Cixi (October 2002 – September 2005) and Zhoushan (December 2009 – August 2012). 

Dr. ZHU received a bachelor’s degree in Hydraulic Transmission and Control from ZJU in 1988, a master’s degree in Mechanical Manufacturing in 1991 from Beijing Institute of Technology, and a doctor’s degree in Fluid Transmission and Control from ZJU in 1995.  

Professor ZHU’s expertise is focused on Mechatronic Control.

YE Min Vice Secretary of the Party Committee

Dr. YE Min has been Vice Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Zhejiang University since August 2017. His responsibilities include discipline inspection, policy research, trade union and staff congress, etc.

Previously, he was secretary of the Party Committee of Zhejiang University City College (August 2014 – August 2017). From 2011 to 2013, he was vice president for education at Xinjiang Agricultural University. Before that, he had assumed many different roles at ZJU, including director of the Office of Graduate Admissions and director of the Office of the Presidents. 

From ZJU, Dr. YE received a bachelor’s degree in Inorganic and Non-metallic Materials in 1984, a master’s degree in Management in 1995, and a doctorate in Management in 2014.  

Dr. YE's research is focused on Higher Engineering Education and Education Management.



WU Xiaocheng Vice Secretary of the Party Committee

WU Xiaocheng was named Vice Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Zhejiang University in October 2018. 

Prior to this appointment, he was Vice Dean of the Undergraduate School and Director of the Student Affairs Department. From July 2008 to July 2013, he served as Director of the Administrative Committee of the University’s Agricultural Science and Technology Park. He also worked in his capacity as Vice Secretary General of Huzhou Municipal Government from November 2011 to July 2013 and Director of the University’s Agricultural Experiment Station from January 2010 to July 2013. Previously, he served successively as Vice Secretary of the Communist Party of the College of Biosystems Engineering and Food Science and Vice Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of the College of Environmental & Resource Science from October 2015 to June 2010.

WU Xiaocheng received his bachelor’s and master’s degree in agricultural machinery from Zhejiang University in 1994 and 2003 respectively. His main research is focused on higher education management and ideological and political education. He was selected into the Outstanding Talents Program in Ideological and Political Education by the Ministry of Education in 2015. 

WU Xiaocheng is Vice Secretary General of the Ideological and Political Education Committee of China Association of Higher Education and a member of the Board of Supervisors for the Counselors’ Work Research Branch of China Association of Higher Education.



FU Qiang Vice Secretary of the Party Committee

Dr. FU Qiang was named Vice Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Zhejiang University in July 2020.  

Prior to his current position, Dr. FU Qiang was Vice President of Zhejiang Sci-tech University from May 2019 to June 2020. From March 2016 to October 2019, he served as Assistant President of Zhejiang University. He served as Secretary of the Community Party Working Committee and Vice Dean of ZJU’s International Campus since April 2014. From June 2013 to May 2014, he held a temporary position as Assistant Mayor of Pu’er City of Yunnan Province. From June 2008 to April 2014, he served as President of Zhejiang University Press. From July 2006 to June 2008, he served as Executive Vice President of Zhejiang University Press. From March 2003 to September 2006, he served as Vice Director of the Office of the President at Zhejiang University. From October 2000 to March 2003, he served as Vice Secretary of the Communist Youth League of Zhejiang University.

Dr. FU Qiang received his bachelor’s, master’s and PhD degrees from Zhejiang University. His major research interest is higher education management.

     





WU Zhaohui President

Prof. Dr. WU Zhaohui was named president of Zhejiang University in March 2015. He is an alternate member of the 19th Central Committee of Communist Party of China. He was elected as the member of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2017.

Dr. Wu is a fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), IEEE, China Computer Federation (CCF), Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI) and Chinese Association of Automation (CAA). He also serves as director of the National Panel of Modern Service Industry, vice president of the China Association of Higher Education, and vice president of the Chinese Health Information and Big Data Association.

Dr. Wu’s major research is focused on computer science and technology. He was a chief scientist in the 973 Project and an information expert in the 863 Project.

Dr. Wu was also a winner of the National Fund for Distinguished Young Scientists, a first-tier talent in the National Talents Program, the second-prize winner of the State Technological Invention Award, the second-prize winner of the State Scientific & Technological Progress Award, and the winner of the Prize for Scientific and Technological Innovation of the Ho Leung & Ho Lee Foundation. One of his studies was listed among the Top Ten Achievements in Science and Technology of Chinese Universities in 2016.

YAN Jianhua Vice President

Professor Dr. YAN Jianhua has been vice president of ZJU since July 2015, in charge of postgraduate education and academic affairs.

Dr. YAN was born in June 1962 in Ningbo city, Zhejiang Province. He graduated from Zhejiang University and got his bachelor’s, master’s and PhD degrees in 1982, 1985 and 1990 respectively. 

In 1985, he joined the Department of Thermal Physics at ZJU as an assistant professor. In 1991, he became associate professor of the Institute for Thermal Power Engineering of ZJU. From 1992 to 1993, he was a visiting professor at the Technical University of Nova Scotia, Canada. From 1994 to 1996, he was director of the National Laboratory of Clean Coal Combustion at ZJU. From 1993 to 1996, he was deputy director of the Institute for Thermal Power Engineering, ZJU. From October 1995 to January 1996, he was senior visiting scholar at the University of Tokyo. From 1996 to 2007, he was chairman of the Department of Energy Engineering, ZJU and director of the Design Institute of Energy Engineering, ZJU. Since 1995, he has been professor of the Department of Energy Engineering, ZJU. From 1999 to 2007, he was executive dean of the College of Mechanical and Energy Engineering, ZJU. 

From 2007 to July 2013, he was executive dean of the Graduate School of ZJU and vice provost of ZJU. Since 2002, he has been a Cheung Kong scholar of the Ministry of Education. Since 2012, he has been approved as chief scientist of State 973 project. From July 2013 to June 2015, he was vice secretary of the Party Committee of ZJU.

Dr. YAN's major research interests include clean combustion, pyrolysis and gasification, pollutant control, combustion acquisition, environmental protection in the energy conversion process and waste derived energy, etc. He has published 305 scientific papers and eight books. He owns 57 Chinese invention patents. He got one State Technology Invention Award (second prize), three State Science and Technology Progress Awards (second prize) and one State Innovation Team Award.

Dr. YAN served as co-chair of the Association of Chinese Graduate School (ACGS) from 2012 to 2016. He is a member of the Discipline Appraisal Group under the State Council. He is vice chairman of the National Alliance of Innovative Waste to Energy. He is also serving as director of the State Engineering Laboratory of Waste Incineration Technology.

ZHANG Hongjian Vice President

HE Lianzhen Vice President

Professor Dr. HE Lianzhen assumed the role as Vice President, International of Zhejiang University in June 2018. She also serves as dean of ZJU's International Campus concurrently.

Prior to her current position, Dr. HE was dean of School of International Studies from April, 2009 to November, 2016 and dean of the Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences from July, 2016 to April, 2017.

Dr. HE got her Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics from the University of Birmingham, UK (1992) and her PhD degree in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics from Guangdong Foreign Studies University, China (1998). Her main research interests are language assessment, applied linguistics, and discourse analysis. She was senior visiting scholar at University of California at Los Angeles in 2004, Benjamin Meaker Visiting Professor at University of Bristol in 2014. Her publications include articles on language assessment research in top journals like Language Testing, Language Assessment Quarterly, and many key journals in China.

She is also director of the National Advisory Board for College Foreign Language Teaching of the Ministry of Education, director of Research Institute of Applied Linguistics at Zhejiang University and co-director of Zhejiang-Bristol Joint Research Center on Language Assessment. She was awarded National Professor of Distinction by Chinese Ministry of Education in 2006.

WANG Lizhong Vice President

Dr. Wang Lizhong was named Vice President of Zhejiang University in October 2018. 

Prior to this appointment, he was Dean of the Ocean College. He served successively as Vice Dean, Executive Vice Dean, and Dean of the Graduate School from 2015 to 2018. Previously he held the positions of Vice Dean, Executive Vice Dean, Dean of the College of Civil Engineering and Architecture, successively from 2009 to 2016. 

Dr. Wang received his bachelor’s degree in hydraulic engineering, and a PhD in geotechnical engineering, both from Zhejiang University. His major research is focused on constitutive behavior and modeling of soft soils and offshore geotechnical engineering. His contributions have been recognized by many honors, including a winner of the National Fund for Distinguished Young Scientists, a distinguished professor of the 2015 Chang Jiang Scholars Program, as well as the first prize in Scientific & Technological Progress Award by the Ministry of Education, and the Mao Yisheng Youth Award by the Chinese Institute of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering.

Dr. Wang is a member of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council in Civil Engineering, a member of the Civil Engineering Advisory Committee and a board member of the Higher Education Branch of China Association of Hydraulic Engineering Education.

ZHOU Tianhua Vice President

Prof. Dr. ZHOU Tianhua was appointed as Vice President of Zhejiang University in November 2019.

Prior to this appointment, he served as Dean of the Graduate School at Zhejiang University. From July 2017 to May 2018, he served as Director of the Development & Planning Department. From March 2015 to July 2017, he served as Director of the Office of Disciplines and Development and Head of the Office of the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee. From December 2013 to March 2015, he served as Executive Vice Director of the Office of Disciplines and Development and Deputy Head of the Office of the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee. From July 2013 to December 2013, he served as Vice Dean of the School of Medicine. From May 2012 to April 2014, he served as Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. From July 2009 to October 2012, he served as Vice Dean of the Department of Basic Medicine.

Dr. ZHOU is a board member of Chinese Society for Cell Biology, Vice Director of Chinese Society for Cell Structures and Behaviors, Vice Secretary-general of Chinese Society for Cancer Cell Research and Secretary-general of the Academic Committee of Chinese Society of Academic Degrees and Graduate Education.

Dr. ZHOU’s major research is focused on molecular cell biology and cancer biology.

Dr. ZHOU won the National Fund for Distinguished Young Scientists in 2011 and was selected into Scientific and Technological Innovation Leading Talents in the “Ten Thousand Talents Plan” in 2016.
