Library of Ancient Books opens at Zhejiang University

The Zhejiang University Library of Ancient Books was officially open to the public on the occasion of the 124th anniversary of Zhejiang University.

The Library has a collection of over 180,000 volumes of books from the Song Dynasty (AD 960-1279) to the Republic of China (AD 1912-1949), including more than 20,000 volumes of rare classics. Practically 100 types of rare books are exclusively accessioned here. The Library has a total of 175 rare books catalogued into the National Rare Ancient Book Directory, ranking second among all libraries in Chinese universities.

At the opening ceremony, ZHOU Gonggan, chairman of Zhejiang Jianzhou Holdings, donated the block-printed Yuan edition of Historical Events Retold as a Mirror for Government (Zi Zhi Tong Jian, Vol. 31) and the block-printed Ming edition of Historical Events Retold as a Mirror for Government (Zi Zhi Tong Jian, Vol. 32 and Vol. 33) to the Library.

The Library is a three-story exquisite, imposing and elegant building, covering a construction area of about 5,000 square meters. When readers walk into the lobby on the first floor, they will be greeted by a spacious exhibition hall. In the cozy reading area on the same floor, readers can read at their leisure or hold discussions with others. The second floor and the third floor are primarily intended for students to consult books and study, with more than 130 seats.
