Vice Secretary of the Party Committee
REN Shaobo Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Zhejiang University

Dr. REN Shaobo assumed the role as Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Zhejiang University on March 20, 2019.

Dr. Ren is a long-serving member of the university leadership. He served as Deputy Secretary of ZJU's Party Committee from 2009 to 2015 and became Vice President in January 2016. Then, in his tenure as Executive Vice President, Dr. Ren oversaw campus management, real estate, capital construction, logistics, security, informatization, and education & research in humanities and social sciences, etc. 

Dr. Ren received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Zhejiang University, a master’s degree and a PhD in economics from the same university. While working as deputy director at Office of the Presidents, he completed a six-month visit at Valparaiso University in 2004. His expertise is focused on economics and higher education management.

ZHU Shiqiang Vice Secretary of the Party Committee

Professor Dr. ZHU Shiqiang has been Vice Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Zhejiang Universitysince January 2016. He is responsible for the management of ZJU's Zhoushan Campus and the Ningbo Institute of Technology. He currently also serves as director of the newly founded Zhejiang Lab

From June 2014 to January 2016, he was assistant president of ZJU and vice dean of the Ocean College. Previously, Dr. ZHU had assumed important positions in several municipal governments of Zhejiang province, including deputy mayor of Cixi (October 2002 – September 2005) and Zhoushan (December 2009 – August 2012). 

Dr. ZHU received a bachelor’s degree in Hydraulic Transmission and Control from ZJU in 1988, a master’s degree in Mechanical Manufacturing in 1991 from Beijing Institute of Technology, and a doctor’s degree in Fluid Transmission and Control from ZJU in 1995.  

Professor ZHU’s expertise is focused on Mechatronic Control.

FU Qiang Vice Secretary of the Party Committee

Dr. FU Qiang was named Vice Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Zhejiang University in July 2020.  

Prior to his current position, Dr. FU Qiang was Vice President of Zhejiang Sci-tech University from May 2019 to June 2020. From March 2016 to October 2019, he served as Assistant President of Zhejiang University. He served as Secretary of the Community Party Working Committee and Vice Dean of ZJU’s International Campus since April 2014. From June 2013 to May 2014, he held a temporary position as Assistant Mayor of Pu’er City of Yunnan Province. From June 2008 to April 2014, he served as President of Zhejiang University Press. From July 2006 to June 2008, he served as Executive Vice President of Zhejiang University Press. From March 2003 to September 2006, he served as Vice Director of the Office of the President at Zhejiang University. From October 2000 to March 2003, he served as Vice Secretary of the Communist Youth League of Zhejiang University.

Dr. FU Qiang received his bachelor’s, master’s and PhD degrees from Zhejiang University. His major research interest is higher education management.

     





HUANG Xiangfeng Vice Secretary of the Party Committee

Dr. HUANG Xiangfeng was appointed Vice Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Zhejiang University in August 2022.

Prior to his current position, Dr. Huang has served as Vice President in Tongji University since December 2020. Previously, he had assumed the positions as Director of Organization Department, Director of Personnel Department, Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of the College of Environmental Science and Engineering, and many other key roles in Tongji University.

Dr. Huang graduated from Tongji University and received his bachelor’s and PhD degrees in 1996, 2002 respectively. His research focus is water pollution control and resource reuse.


ZHU Hui Vice Secretary of the Party Committee

 

DU Jiangfeng President

Prof. DU Jiangfeng was named President of Zhejiang University in December 2022 and Vice Secretary of the CPC Zhejiang University Committee. He is an alternate member of the 19th Central Committee of Communist Party of China.

In April 2018, he assumed the positions of Vice President of University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) and Member of the USTC Standing Committee of the CPC. Previously, he also served as Secretary of the General Party Branch of the Department of Modern Physics, Executive Dean of the School of Physics, Dean of the International College (concurrently), and Dean of Suzhou Institute for Advanced Research (concurrently) at University of Science and Technology of China.

Prof. Du is Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. His research focus is quantum physics and its application.

 

HE Lianzhen Vice President

Professor Dr. HE Lianzhen assumed the role as Vice President of Zhejiang University in June 2018. She also serves as a member of the standing committee of CPC Zhejiang University Committee, and Secretary of the CPC Committee of ZJU's International Campus.

Prior to her current position, Dr. HE was dean of School of International Studies from March, 2009 to November, 2016 and dean of the Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences from April, 2016 to April, 2017.

Dr. HE got her Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics from the University of Birmingham, UK (1993) and her PhD degree in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics from Guangdong Foreign Studies University, China (1998). Her main research interests are language assessment, applied linguistics, and discourse analysis. She was senior visiting scholar at University of California at Los Angeles in 2004, Benjamin Meaker Visiting Professor at University of Bristol in 2014. She was awarded National Professor of Distinction by Chinese Ministry of Education in 2006. Her publications include articles on language assessment research in top journals like Language Testing, Language Assessment Quarterly, and many key journals in China. 

She is also director of the National Advisory Board for College Foreign Language Teaching of the Ministry of Education, chair of “Double First-class” University Network, China Education Association for International Exchange, and vice chair of China Association for Language Testing and Assessment.


WANG Lizhong Vice President

Dr. Wang Lizhong was named Vice President of Zhejiang University in October 2018. 

Prior to this appointment, he was Dean of the Ocean College. He served successively as Vice Dean, Executive Vice Dean, and Dean of the Graduate School from 2015 to 2018. Previously he held the positions of Vice Dean, Executive Vice Dean, Dean of the College of Civil Engineering and Architecture, successively from 2009 to 2016. 

Dr. Wang received his bachelor’s degree in hydraulic engineering, and a PhD in geotechnical engineering, both from Zhejiang University. His major research is focused on constitutive behavior and modeling of soft soils and offshore geotechnical engineering. His contributions have been recognized by many honors, including a winner of the National Fund for Distinguished Young Scientists, a distinguished professor of the 2015 Chang Jiang Scholars Program, as well as the first prize in Scientific & Technological Progress Award by the Ministry of Education, and the Mao Yisheng Youth Award by the Chinese Institute of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering.

Dr. Wang is a member of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council in Civil Engineering, a member of the Civil Engineering Advisory Committee and a board member of the Higher Education Branch of China Association of Hydraulic Engineering Education.

ZHOU Tianhua Vice President

Prof. Dr. ZHOU Tianhua was appointed as Vice President of Zhejiang University in November 2019.

Prior to this appointment, he served as Dean of the Graduate School at Zhejiang University. From July 2017 to May 2018, he served as Director of the Development & Planning Department. From March 2015 to July 2017, he served as Director of the Office of Disciplines and Development and Head of the Office of the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee. From December 2013 to March 2015, he served as Executive Vice Director of the Office of Disciplines and Development and Deputy Head of the Office of the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee. From July 2013 to December 2013, he served as Vice Dean of the School of Medicine. From May 2012 to April 2014, he served as Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. From July 2009 to October 2012, he served as Vice Dean of the Department of Basic Medicine.

Dr. ZHOU is a board member of Chinese Society for Cell Biology, Vice Director of Chinese Society for Cell Structures and Behaviors, Vice Secretary-general of Chinese Society for Cancer Cell Research and Secretary-general of the Academic Committee of Chinese Society of Academic Degrees and Graduate Education.

Dr. ZHOU’s major research is focused on molecular cell biology and cancer biology.

Dr. ZHOU won the National Fund for Distinguished Young Scientists in 2011 and was selected into Scientific and Technological Innovation Leading Talents in the “Ten Thousand Talents Plan” in 2016.

 

 

 

WU Jian Vice President

Prof. Dr. WU Jian was named Vice President of Zhejiang University in July 2020.

Prior to her current position, Dr. WU served as Vice Secretary-General of Hangzhou Municipal People’s Government from April 2020 to July 2020. She served as Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Zhejiang University City College and President of Zhejiang University City College from November 2017 to April 2020 and from April 2008 to November 2017 respectively. She was appointed as Vice Dean of Zhejiang University Polytechnic Institute and Executive Vice Secretary of the Communist Party Working Committee of Zhejiang University Polytechnic Institute in July 2016 and September 2017 respectively. She served as Executive Vice Dean of the Zhejiang University Chu Kochen Honors College between July 2005 and April 2008 and Vice Dean of the Zhejiang University Chu Kochen Honors College between February 2002 and July 2005. 

Dr. WU obtained her bachelor’s degree in Polymer Chemistry in 1985 and her PhD degree in Polymer Chemistry and Physics in in 1985 and 1990 respectively. Her main research interests are polymer chemistry and physics. She is one of the second-level talents in the “New Century Talent Project” of Zhejiang Province. 

Dr. WU was a member of the 9th and 10th Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the CPPCC. She is also Vice Chairman of the Board for the Zhejiang Provincial Society for Urban Studies.  




HUANG Xianhai Vice President

Prof. Dr. HUANG Xianhai was named Vice President of Zhejiang University in October 2020.

Prior to his current position, Prof. HUANG served as Dean of the Zhejiang University School of Economics from November 2015 to October 2020. He was appointed as Vice Dean and Executive Vice Dean of the Zhejiang University School of Economics in June 2009 and in July 2013 respectively.  

Prof. HUANG obtained his bachelor’s degree in Philosophy in 1987 and his master’s degree in Business Administration in 1996 from the former Hangzhou University (currently Zhejiang University). He obtained his PhD degree in World Economics from Fudan University in 2003. He was a visiting scholar at the Harvard University Department of Economics between March 2008 and June 2008.

His main research areas are international economics and development economics. He is a distinguished professor in the Changjiang Scholars Program, a leading expert in the National Ten Thousand Talents Plan, a member of the National New Century Talents Project, and one of the National Young and Middle-aged Experts with Outstanding Contributions.

He is also Deputy Director of China Society of World Economics and Deputy Director of China Association of American Economics.
