ZJU Ranks 1st in Number of Patents among China's Institutions of Higher Education

China’s Ministry of Education announced the rankings of authorized invention patents in 2015 and effective invention patents by the end of 2015 among China’s institutions of higher education. Statistics revealed that Zhejiang  University ranked 1st in the number of authorized invention patents.

The quantity and quality of patents have long served as a vital yardstick against which to measure the innovativeness of a university or college.

Zhejiang University, the Harbin Institute of Technology and Southeast University obtained 1865, 1454 and 1453 invention patents in 2015, thus placing them among the top three universities. In terms of the number of effective invention patents by the end of 2015, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University and Shanghai  Jiao Tong  University ranked top 3.

In recent years, Zhejiang  University has been taking the lead in the number of patent applications and authorized patents nationwide. By the end of 2015, the number of effective invention patents had added up to 7,000. Zhejiang  University displays superb academic and administrative strengths, thereby providing fertile soil for sparkling ideas and patent applications.
