Zhejiang University Appoints Translator Xu Jun as Senior Professor in Liberal Arts

Xu Jun is a chair professor of the Cheung Kong Scholars’ Program of China’s Ministry of Education and a distinguished translator. On September 13, Prof. Xu Jun was granted the title of Senior Professorship in Liberal Arts and became a full-time professor in the School  of International Studies.

Vice Executive President Song Yonghua extended his cordial welcome to Prof. Xu. “Prof. Xu Jun is our old friend who has made tremendous contributions to Zhejiang  University,” said Song, “The university aims to cultivate talents with global visions and international competitiveness, which renders it vital to hire first-rate faculty members. It has long been committed to creating a favorable environment for talent development. It is hoped that Prof. Xu Jun will contribute all he can to the development of first-class disciplines in the School of International   Studies and the construction of a first-class university.”

Xu Jun is a leading and influential expert in the field of translation both at home and abroad. Over the past 3 decades, he has engaged in wide-ranging and in-depth research in translation theory, translation criticism as well as cultural studies in translation. He has reaped fruitful yields in foreign literature, translation studies, construction of the discipline of translation and cultivation of translation talents. In addition, he has opened up channels of international academic exchanges and explored international partnership programs in talent cultivation. He will arguably become a tremendous asset to the School  of International Studies.
