



On December 21, the Center for Psychological Sciences, Zhejiang University, was established. The Center will be dedicated to cutting-edge research in psychology by capitalizing on the strengths of various disciplines. Prof. Wu Zhaohui, President of Zhejiang University, and Prof. Ma Shengming, Director of the Center for Psychological Sciences, unveiled the plaque for the Center together.
Wu Zhaohui said that psychology is a crucial discipline which studies human mind and behavior and acts as a bridge between natural sciences and humanistic sciences. As science is developing at an expeditious pace today, people grow increasingly aware that human factors are one of the key factors in every field. With the advent of the Era of Innovation 3.0, such technologies as big data, the Internet of Things, mobile networks and artificial intelligence will evolve exponentially, which will usher in an age when the physical world and the virtual world are intertwined. Psychological and mental problems will loom larger, so psychological sciences will be confronted with both challenges and opportunities in the future.
Also present at the opening ceremony were over 40 domestic and international experts from various disciplines, including psychology, physiology, informatics, mechanical engineering and computer sciences.
The Center for Psychological Sciences is an inter-disciplinary research institute. It will be committed to scientific theories and approaches in psychology, physiology, biophysics, behavioral sciences, informatics and data sciences. It will carry out cutting-edge research and innovation in relevant fields by means of extensive cooperation with research institutes as well as military and civic enterprises. Its ultimate goal is to become an internationally renowned research institute and talent cultivation base.
