Recently, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University (SAHZU) signed an agreement with the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians (RCP) of the UK to launch a joint teaching program, making it the first partner of the Federation in the Chinese mainland.
The Federation, based in the UK and with international reach, is a partnership between the Royal College of Physicians of London, the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. This collaboration is expected to further expand SAHZU’s portfolio of international partnerships, at the same time provide more opportunities for students to be engaged in globally recognized programs.

About 150 years ago, David Duncan Main, a British physician and a member of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, founded Guangji Hospital—the predecessor of SAHZU. He dedicated forty-five years of his life to medical service in Hangzhou. Today, the Federation is resuming this sesquicentennial relationship.
“Medical education is one of the important cornerstones and fundamental missions for the development of our hospital. This partnership will be conducive to promoting the level of medical education of our hospital in an all-round manner and creating a world-class medical education system, thus laying a solid foundation for the globalization of clinical medicine and research in our hospital,” said WANG Jianan, president of SAHZU.
For the next step, experts from the Federation will assess and accredit the training system of SAHZU in accordance with the training curricula of the Federation. SAHZU and the Federation will also strengthen cooperation in examinations and training programs.
