The Ray Wu Prize 2019 was recently awarded to 12 Ph.D. candidates for excellence in life-sciences research. SHEN Chenjie, a Ph.D. student from ZJU's School of Medicine, is one of the recipients of this honorable award.

The Ray Wu Prize for Excellence in Life Sciences, established in 2009, is an award that aims to inspire Asias most promising young Ph.D. students to become future leaders in life sciences. The prize consists of USD$3000, a medal, a certificate, and a citation by the Ray Wu Memorial Fund (RWMF).

SHEN Chenjie started his doctoral pursuit in 2014 and has been engaging in research into the physiological pathogenesis of neurological diseases. He has many publications in top journals, including a research article entitled “Cannabinoid CB1 receptors in the amygdalar cholecystokinin glutamatergic afferents to nucleus accumbens modulate depressive-like behavior” in the journal of Nature Medicine, which reveals the circuit and molecular mechanisms of depression.

SHEN Chenjie won a series of awards and honors as a doctoral student, including the National Scholarship, the Provincial Outstanding Graduate Award, the Zhang Xiangtong Neuroscience Postgraduate Paper Award and ZJU Top 10 StudentsAcademic Achievement Award. He was invited to deliver speeches by Carney Institute for Brain Science and Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience.

After obtaining his doctoral degree, SHEN Chenjie will embark on his postdoctoral fellowship in the Feng Laboratory, which is led by Prof. FENG Guoping, also a ZJU alumnus, at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He will be committed to doing research into the circuit and molecular mechanisms of such neurodevelopmental and psychiatric diseases as autism.
