The United Nation (UN) Job Fair was successfully hosted by the center of career services of Zhejiang University on Tuesday, October 29. Organized by China Scholarship Council (CSC), this fair is held in China for the first time and features 25 UN agencies and organizations, including UNESCO,UNICEF,ICRC,UNDP, etc. On October 27, the first stop of this Fair kicked off at Peking University, Beijing.

At the second stop, more than 1300 students from 38 universities attended the fair in ZJU, which offered a valuable opportunity for students and graduates of Hangzhou and surrounding areas to begin exploring their future career and develop their professional path in international organizations. During the event, students have the chance to talk with UN representatives directly and know more about UN agencies from presentation sessions.

In view of the first UN Job Fair, Dr. ZHANG Ning, deputy secretary-general of CSC, noted: “These seniors and recent graduates don’t just take part in this event in the hopes of finding a specific intern in UN. It is also an opportunity to be mentored by UN representatives who provide participants with excellent advice. In this sense, this UN Fair is an extremely formative experience for Chinese students. At the same time, UN agencies also gain access to the talent pool in China. This is a win-win situation.”

During the event, WU Xiaocheng, vice secretary of party committee of ZJU, said in the interview, “ZJU puts great emphasis on international education and aims to nurture future leaders with global perspective and competency, which is one of key goals of its Global Strategy. This event provides an excellent platform to expand the horizon of our students.”

Rossella Salvia, coordinator of partnership programms,UNESCO mentioned that UNESCO, as well as other participating UN agencies, hoped to be more visible and more known among Chinese public through this event.

"Today I learned about the focus of UN agencies and their recruitment requirements. Now I am very clear about my path to UN - work for three to five years to accumulate experience before applying for UN jobs, " said HAN Lingxin, graduate student of Department of Sociology and who has worked as an intern at UNESCO in 2018.

School of International Studies provided strong support to this event.
