On October 13, REN Shaobo, Chairman of the Zhejiang University Council, met with a distinguished delegation of Hungarian university presidents led by László Borhy, President of the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference and Rector of Eötvös Loránd University, on Zijingang Campus.

REN Shaobo warmly welcomed the delegation and highlighted Zhejiang University’s recent developments in academic disciplines, cutting-edge innovation, and cultural initiatives. He expressed the University’s commitment to fostering partnerships with Hungarian universities in areas such as engineering education, basic sciences, interdisciplinary research, and preservation of cultural heritage. Ren emphasized the significance of enhancing cooperation in higher education to bolster the long-term development of China-Hungary bilateral relations.

On behalf of the Hungarian universities, László Borhy expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and commended Zhejiang University’s impressive accomplishments. He underscored the role of the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference in promoting the internationalization of higher education and affirmed the Hungarian universities’ strong interest in deepening collaboration with Zhejiang University. Borhy remarked that the partnership between Chinese and Hungarian higher education institutions is crucial for expanding cultural and academic exchanges as well as enriching the meaning of the bilateral strategic partnership.
The meeting also featured a thematic discussion, where Prof. LI Jianshu, Dean of the School of Mathematical Sciences and Director of the Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics at Zhejiang University, introduced the construction of the mathematics discipline. Prof. LI Min, Director of the Office of Global Engagement and Dean of the International College, shared updates on the University’s global engagement and international education. Representatives from both sides engaged in discussions on key topics such as discipline development, innovation and entrepreneurship, global strategies, and sustainable development.

In his closing remarks, ZHOU Jianghong, Vice President of Zhejiang University, reaffirmed Zhejiang University’s dedication to deepening educational exchanges with Hungary. “This meeting has provided a valuable platform for meaningful dialogue between China and Hungary, and we look forward to tackling global challenges and shaping a brighter future together with our Hungarian partners,” Zhou said.
