Associate Vice President GU Zhen meets with delegation led by University of Waterloo Associate Vice-President

On January 29, a delegation led by Professor Alfred Yu, Associate Vice-President of the University of Waterloo, visited Zhejiang University. Associate Vice President GU Zhen met with the guests.

GU Zhen extended a warm welcome to Alfred Yu and his colleagues, and briefed them on Zhejiang University’s recent development, overall strengths, and its innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem. He noted that Zhejiang University places high priority on cooperation with the University of Waterloo and looks forward to establishing a formal inter-university partnership, particularly in key areas such as computer science and mathematics. He expressed hope that deeper educational collaboration and joint research initiatives will further advance talent cultivation and innovation-driven development, thus bringing bilateral cooperation to a new height.

Alfred Yu spoke highly of Zhejiang University’s achievements. He said that the University of Waterloo is keen to deepen engagement with Zhejiang University in interdisciplinary talent development from a global perspective. He also highlighted the value of strengthening collaboration in practice-based teaching, applied research, and knowledge transfer, and underscored the importance of mutual learning in industry–academia–research cooperation models to broaden the reach and impact of joint outcomes.

Following the meeting, the two universities held a working symposium on future cooperation. Representatives from the School of Mathematical Sciences, the School of Earth Sciences, the School of Materials Science and Engineering, the College of Civil Engineering and Architecture, the College of Computer Science and Technology, and the School of Pharmacy presented updates on disciplinary development and recent research progress, and discussed potential areas for collaboration.
