On February 6, a delegation led by Maurizio Martina, Deputy Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), visited Zhejiang University. REN Shaobo, Chairman of the Zhejiang University Council, met with the guests, and the two sides exchanged views on expanding cooperation.

REN Shaobo welcomed Martina and his colleagues and briefed them on Zhejiang University’s recent progress and disciplinary strengths. He also reviewed ongoing ZJU–FAO cooperation in areas including digital agriculture policy research, entrepreneurship and innovation practice, and capacity building. He reaffirmed Zhejiang University’s commitment to its strategic partnership with FAO and expressed the university’s willingness to deepen cooperation on innovation platforms, joint online course development, and South–South cooperation, contributing more substantially to the global digital transformation of agriculture and sustainable development.

Maurizio Martina commended Zhejiang University’s comprehensive strengths and the tangible outcomes of the partnership. He noted that cooperation has continued to grow since the two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding, with broad prospects ahead. FAO, he said, is poised to work with Zhejiang University to explore the co-development of an online learning platform, promote open sharing of educational resources and research outcomes, and launch joint pilot initiatives in digital agriculture innovation.

During the visit, Maurizio Martina and his delegation also toured the ZJU-Hangzhou Global Scientific and Technological Innovation Center and the Agricultural Experimental Station, where they learned about Zhejiang University’s latest innovations in agricultural science and technology.

Also attending the meeting were YANG Hua, FAO Deputy Director of Cabinet; WANG Jinbiao, Special Assistant to the FAO Director-General; GU Zhen, Assistant President of Zhejiang University; and representatives from Zhejiang University’s Office of Global Engagement, School of Public Affairs and College of Agriculture and Biotechnology.
