Zhejiang University wins awards for smart energy-saving solutions

2026-05-15 Global Communications

The results of the 2025 Zhejiang Provincial University Energy Saving and Carbon Reduction Excellent Case Selection were recently announced. Two innovative projects from the Water and Electricity Support and Construction Engineering Center of the Zhejiang University (ZJU) Logistics Group were recognized as excellent cases. Both achievements, authored by ZHANG Yijian, highlight ZJU's commitment to building a smart, green, and low-carbon campus.

The first award-winning project is the Smart Monitoring and Water Level Control Alarm System for Domestic Water Lifting Pump Stations. By establishing a smart monitoring platform and installing water level sensors alongside automatic control devices, the system enables real-time monitoring, intelligent adjustment, and anomaly alerts for pump station operations. This technology effectively addresses common issues in traditional pump stations, such as significant water level fluctuations, high energy consumption, and leakage. While ensuring a stable water supply for the campus, the system significantly reduces water loss and electricity consumption, providing a replicable model for energy-saving renovations in university water supply systems.

The second recognized achievement is the Smart Lighting Control System for Underground Garages at Zijingang Campus. Utilizing motion sensing, time-sharing regulation, and remote management technologies, this system replaces the traditional always-on lighting mode. It achieves precise lighting control where lights brighten when vehicles approach and dim or turn off when they leave. This project has substantially lowered lighting energy consumption and reduced equipment wear while maintaining safety for drivers and pedestrians. It serves as a prime example of smart electricity conservation in campus public areas.

In recent years, the Water and Electricity Support and Construction Engineering Center has aligned its efforts with China's national dual carbon strategy. By focusing on the core energy consumption scenarios of water and electricity, the center has adopted a strategy of smart empowerment, refined operation, and carbon reduction. ZHANG Yijian noted that the team will continue to focus on the research and application of energy-saving technologies to transform technical achievements into tangible carbon reduction results.

The ZJU Logistics Group plans to use these awards as an opportunity to further promote successful energy-saving experiences. By deepening the application of smart technologies and improving long-term mechanisms for energy conservation, the university aims to contribute more ZJU wisdom to the green and sustainable development of higher education institutions in Zhejiang Province.
