Associate Vice President GU Zhen meets with CEO of Taylor & Francis

On May 13, a delegation led by Penny Ladkin-Brand, CEO of Taylor & Francis (T&F), a leading international academic publisher, visited Zhejiang University. GU Zhen, Associate Vice President of Zhejiang University, met with the guests for discussions on future cooperation.

GU Zhen extended a warm welcome to Penny Ladkin-Brand and her colleagues, and introduced Zhejiang University’s recent development as well as the strong innovation and entrepreneurship momentum among its alumni community. He noted that Zhejiang University is working to build an academic ecosystem with global impact. With a history of more than 220 years, T&F is an important partner for Zhejiang University. He expressed the hope that the two sides would deepen cooperation in areas such as joint development of academic journals, international publishing, and the global dissemination of academic research outcomes.

Penny Ladkin-Brand thanked Zhejiang University for its warm hospitality and praised the university’s achievements in scientific innovation, talent cultivation, and international cooperation. She noted that T&F places immense importance on partnerships with leading Chinese universities and regards Zhejiang University as one of its most important strategic partners in China. HONG Yingyuan, President of T&F China, introduced the framework of a “partnership for knowledge consumption and creation,” expressing the hope that the framework would support a new model of academic collaboration with Zhejiang University that integrates resource access, knowledge creation, and the dissemination of research outcomes.

During the open discussion session, the two sides exchanged views on trends in academic publishing, open access, digital platform development, and the planning of academic book series. Representatives from Zhejiang University Press and the University Library also shared the university’s practices and achievements in academic publishing, journal development, and knowledge services.

The meeting further strengthened mutual understanding and laid a solid foundation for closer cooperation between Zhejiang University and T&F in academic publishing and global knowledge exchange.
