Rt. Hon. David Willetts Visits ZJU

Rt. Hon. David Willetts, the British Minister of State for Universities and Science from 2010 to July 2014, paid a visit to Zhejiang University on January 18. Executive Vice President Song Yonghua met with David Willetts.

Song extended his cordial welcome to David Willetts and introduced to him relevant information about ZJU, including its latest development, globalization initiative, educational philosophy, research and teaching, international cooperation and exchange as well as the construction of International Campus in Haining. He made a special mention of ZJU’s strategic goal of promoting cooperation with institutions of higher learning in the UK. They explored the prospects for collaboration with the Times Higher Education (THE) and other distinguished British universities and institutions in such domains as research, teaching, intellectual property rights and technological transfer. David Willetts showed his genuine appreciation of the development of ZJU and expressed his ardent willingness to recommend more British universities and research institutions to ZJU.

David Willetts is Executive Chairman of the Resolution Foundation and a Visiting Professor at King’s College London. He is Governor of the Ditchley Foundation and a member of the Council of the Institute for Fiscal Studies. He attended the Cabinet from 2010-2014. He was the Member of Parliament for Havant from 1992-2015. Before that David worked at HM Treasury and the Number 10 Policy Unit. He also served as Paymaster General in the last Conservative Government. David has written widely on economic and social policy.
