2016-05-14 Global Communications

On May 9, the 30th anniversary of ZJU-CAU Partnership was celebrated on Zijingang Campus. Present at the ceremony were Wu Zhaohui, President of Zhejiang University, Lutz Kipp, President of Kiel University, and Torsten Albig, Governor of the German state—Schleswig-Holstein.

Wu Zhaohui delivered a welcome address. “ZJU welcomes a group of students from CAU with open arms every summer. They learn Chinese and keep themselves well-informed about the Chinese culture in the Chinese Summer Program. During their stay, they communicate a lot with ZJUers,” said Wu. Since 2011, ZJU has started to provide 5 CAU students with a “Chinese Studies” scholarship in support of their one-year graduate study on a yearly basis. So far, a total of 18 students have obtained their master’s degree in Chinese Studies. “We place much emphasis on our enduring and firm partnership with CAU and expect to make joint endeavors to tackle global challenges, promote education and develop science and technology for the well-being of humanity. I believe that not only is this celebration a wrap-up of our cooperation in the past 3 decades, but it also opens up a new avenue for a more intimate relationship,” said Wu.

“Over the past 30 years, more than 300 ZJU scientists have worked or studied at CAU. Many of them have obtained their doctorate at CAU. In addition to cooperation in conventional programs, such as medicine and humanities, there has been much progress in new collaborative programs. For example, CAU scientists in marine and earth sciences as well as in the Kiel Cluster of Excellence ‘The Future Ocean’ paid a visit to ZJU and explored the possibility of entering into partnership with ZJU’s Ocean  College,” said Lutz Kipp in his speech.

Song Yonghua, ZJU’s Vice Executive President, presided over the ceremony.
