ZJU Co-organizes T20 with 3 Other Think-tanks

One of the Think-Tank 20 (T20) conferences—G20 Think-Tank Forum: Innovation, New Economy and Structural Reform—was held on June 17-19 in Anji County, Zhejiang Province. Present at the Forum were approximately 200 experts in various domains, such as education, economy and finance, from over 20 countries and regions, including China, the USA and Russia.

T20 serves as an “ideas bank” for G20. To this end, T20 organizes the analysis of global think tanks and high-level experts in order to provide analytical depth to ongoing G20 discussions and produce ideas to help the G20 on delivering concrete and sustainable policy measures. This T20 was co-organized by Zhejiang University, the Institute of World Economics and Politics at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Shanghai Institute for International Studies and Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China.

At the opening ceremony, Wu Zhaohui, President of Zhejiang University, said that “Zhejiang  University has long been committed to undertaking national strategic missions and embracing global challenges and expects to explore new engines for the world economic development and open a new chapter of human civilization together with academia and think-tanks all over the globe.”

Mr. Stanley Mutumba Simataa, President of the 38th session of the General Conference of UNESCO and Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology of the Republic of Namibia, said in his keynote speech that “The current world is constantly changing. New values, including views on global governance, are emerging. The accountability system and transparency are an integral part of open economy and new markets are playing an increasingly dominant role. Investment in innovation has become the cornerstone of global competitiveness and sustainable development.”

Other keynote speakers included Du Ping, Executive Vice Director of the China State  Information Center, Zhou Guping, Vice Party Chief of Zhejiang University, Chen Dongxiao, Director of Shanghai Institute for International Studies, Wang Jian, CTO of Alibaba Group and Chen Zongnian, President of CETHIK Group.

The Forum comprised three penal sessions: “The ‘Belt & Road’ Initiative and Structural Reform”, “Innovation and New Economy”, “Economic Transformation and Entrepreneurial Talents”. It aimed at exploring the internal relationship between innovation, new economy and structural reform and seeking for answers to economic problems in the current world by combing Chinese experience, thereby opening up more strategic and policy options for G20.
