ZJU Delegation Attends 14th World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention

    The Zhejiang University delegation headed by Vice President LUO Weidong attended the 14th World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention on September 15-18 in Yangon, Myanmar. The main theme was “An Opening Economy in Myanmar, A New Epoch in History”. Under the new economic structure of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the “Belt & Road” Initiative, the convention served as a platform to collect new business ideas and exchange views on the direction and room of business development for world Chinese entrepreneurs.

    Vice President of the China Overseas Exchange Association XU Yousheng read out a congratulatory message from YU Zhengsheng, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). WU Jiyuan, the Myanmar Chinese Chamber of Commerce, delivered a welcoming speech. Also present at the opening ceremony were Myanmar First Vice President U Myint Swe, CPPCC Vice Chairman WANG Qinmin and Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor. The convention gathered more than 2,000 overseas Chinese business representatives and journalists.

    LUO Weidong delivered a keynote speech on the Belt & Road Initiative forum. “The Belt & Road Initiative brings new opportunities to overseas Chinese entrepreneurs. Zhejiang University is eager to provide a service platform for various circles so as to achieve a win-win situation via marketization and build a new path for cooperation and development,” said LUO.

    The Zhejiang University delegation also visited the Chinese embassy in Myanmar. Luo introduced the basic information about Zhejiang University, its role in the Belt & Road Initiative as well as its major assets, projects and ideas in facilitating China-Myanmar partnership. Zhejiang University and the Chinese embassy in Myanmar reached a consensus regarding cooperation in agriculture, forestry, medicine, education and cultural preservation.

    The delegation also visited the Zhejiang Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar and local Chinese enterprises. They exchanged ideas with each other with respect to university-enterprise cooperation, technological services and talent cultivation.
