Zhejiang University strengthens ties with the University of Sydney in recent high-level meeting

On November 9, Prof. DU Jiangfeng, president of Zhejiang University, met with a delegation led by Prof. Mark Scott, vice chancellor and president of the University of Sydney. The meeting, also attended by Prof. Emma Johnson, deputy vice-chancellor at the University of Sydney, and Prof. HE Lianzhen, vice president of Zhejiang University, marked a significant step towards fostering collaboration between the two institutions.

President Du began the meeting by expressing his sincere appreciation for the visit and provided an overview of ZJU’s recent endeavors aimed at promoting interdisciplinary research and strengthening global engagement. He conveyed his eagerness to deepen collaboration with the University of Sydney, particularly in the fields of engineering and health. “We could strengthen the Joint Lab by carrying out more academic exchange and research projects, and explore joint training of research talent through double PhD programs,” he added. 
Vice Chancellor and President Scott, in turn, acknowledged the shared characteristics between the University of Sydney and Zhejiang University in terms of educational scale, academic discipline, interdisciplinary research, and international cooperation. “Cooperation in higher education is an integral part of Sino-Australian relations,” he pointed out, adding that the University of Sydney will commit itself to leveraging multidisciplinary assets in partnership with Zhejiang University, and breathing fresh vitality into the bilateral relationship and global sustainable development.

The collaborative spirit of the meeting materialized in the unveiling of the Joint Lab on Sustainable Environment, a joint initiative underscoring the shared commitment of the two institutions to fostering innovation and contributing to the broader global community. 

Additionally, a seminar on research collaboration was held, focusing on potential cooperation models in the domains of management, energy, oceanography, environmental resources, and pharmacy.
