“1, 2, 3, pull—” On the morning of December 22, the serene central lake of the campus transformed into a lively fishing ground. At 10:30, students and teachers, alongside seasoned fishermen, donned professional fishing attire and steeped into the muddy shores. Together, they formed an impressive line along the lake, skillfully maneuvering a vast fishing net that danced across the water. The lake came alive with splashing fish, creating a dynamic spectacle as the community worked in unison to haul in their catch.

The excitement reached its peak as the net, teeming with a bountiful harvest, was drawn ashore. Approximately 2000 kilograms of fish were caught, including species like silver carp, grass carp, green fish, and crucian carp, with the heaviest being 35 kilograms and measuring 65 centimeters in length.

If the Winter Solstice fishing symbolizes hauling in happiness and wellbeing for the coming year, then eating, an essential part of traditional Chinese festivals, also cannot be overlooked. The freshly caught fish were immediately taken to the campus canteen, where chefs skillfully prepared a variety of delicious dishes. Meanwhile, at the campus roasted whole lamb station, a long queue had formed. The lamb's skin was roasted to a golden crisp, glistening enticingly, and the aroma of various spices filled the air, creating a festive atmosphere that made everyone's mouth water. Dishes like tender spicy fish, sweet and sour fish, and freshly roasted lamb filled the air with a delicious aroma, offering everyone in the campus warmth and anticipation for the new year.

In keeping with age-old customs, the festival also celebrated the joy of eating dumplings and glutinous rice balls. The bell tower square of the International Campus was adorned with these traditional delicacies, alongside other classic treats like candied haws, glutinous rice cakes, and Chinese sugar paintings. The festivities were further enriched by interactive intangible cultural heritage experiences.
