On the afternoon of April 9, Pratik Mathur, Consul General of India in Shanghai, visited Zhejiang University along with his delegation. HUANG Xianhai, Vice President of Zhejiang University, met with the guests.

HUANG Xianhai extended a warm welcome to the Consul General and his delegation. He provided an overview of Zhejiang University’s recent developments, with a particular focus on its long-standing collaborations with Indian institutions. He highlighted programs such as the Asia-Pacific Forum on Green and Low Carbon Development and the SDG Global Summer School, which have played a key role in fostering academic and cultural exchange between faculty and students from both sides.
HUANG Xianhai also expressed delight in learning that The Yoga Sutras, a scholarly monograph by Professor WANG Zhicheng from the School of Philosophy, had captured the attention of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As a special gesture, Prime Minister Modi had entrusted Consul General Mathur to deliver a handwritten letter. HUANG Xianhai noted that yoga and related research could serve as a meaningful bridge between China and India, deepening mutual understanding and cultural connection.

Pratik Mathur commended Zhejiang University for its academic excellence and wide range of disciplines. With 2025 marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and India, he expressed his hope for ongoing exchange programs between Zhejiang University and Indian institutions, and the pursuit of new opportunities for academic cooperation.
As International Yoga Day approaches, Pratik Mathur said he was honored to deliver Prime Minister Modi’s handwritten letter to Professor WANG Zhicheng and looked forward to further collaboration in yoga-related fields, with the goal of promoting the rich cultural heritage of yoga on a global stage.
