On May 19, Fabrizio Hochschild-Drummond, former Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, paid a visit to Zhejiang University, accompanied by his delegation. Vice President ZHOU Jianghong met with the guests and held discussions on deepening international collaboration in education, research, and sustainable development.

In his remarks, Vice President Zhou extended a warm welcome and highlighted the University’s commitment to global engagement. He shared updates on Zhejiang University’s progress in talent cultivation, sustainable development, and international cooperation. He noted that Zhejiang University responds actively to the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and remain dedicated to promoting global sustainability through education and research. Zhejiang University has forged meaningful partnerships with international organizations across various fields. He expressed hope to further expand these efforts by exploring new models of global education and nurturing the next generation of talent equipped to tackle global challenges.
Mr. Hochschild-Drummond priased Zhejiang University’s achievements and its forward-thinking approach to broadening students’ global horizons and fostering cross-cultural understanding. He expressed interest in working closely with ZJU to strengthen talent development pipelines for international organizations and create more growth opportunities for both faculty and students. He also looked forward to expanded cooperation in sustainability and financial technology.
During the meeting, representatives from the School of International Studies and the Career Development Center presented their visions for future collaboration. Officials from the Office of Global Engagement and the Undergraduate School also joined the discussions.

Following the meeting, Mr. Hochschild-Drummond delivered a lecture as part of the University’s Qiushi Lecture Series. Speaking on the role of artificial intelligence in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals and addressing climate change, the event drew an audience of over 200 students and faculty members across the University.
