To further strengthen Zhejiang University’s exchanges and cooperation with Japan, President MA Yanming led a delegation on an official visit to several leading Japanese institutions.
At Keio University, MA Yanming met with President Kohei Itoh. The two leaders exchanged views on higher education and institutional development. MA Yanming introduced the history of Zhejiang University as well as its achievements in talent cultivation, disciplinary development, and scientific research. Kohei Itoh outlined Keio University’s comprehensive education system and its distinctive strengths in fields such as business and political science. Both sides expressed the shared intention to deepen substantive cooperation in the humanities and social sciences.
At the University of Tokyo, MA Yanming met with President Teruo Fujii. He noted that Zhejiang University’s recent remarkable achievements in the field of artificial intelligence and its ongoing efforts to build a world-class hub for innovation and entrepreneurship that attracts top talent from around the world. Teruo Fujii voiced his hope to strengthen collaboration in developing innovation ecosystems and to jointly explore new pathways for cultivating outstanding innovative talents.
At Hitotsubashi University, MA Yanming and President Nakano Satoshi signed a new inter-university MoU and a student exchange agreement. MA Yanming reviewed the two universities’ longstanding collaborations in faculty and student exchanges as well as their cooperation on sustainable development. He also shared Zhejiang University’s progress in promoting interdisciplinary integration. Nakano Satoshi expressed his wish to further advance cross-disciplinary cooperation between the two universities in social sciences, natural sciences, and engineering.
At the Institute of Science Tokyo, MA Yanming met with CEO Naoto Ohtake. He introduced Zhejiang University’s educational features, disciplinary strengths, and recent development achievements, expressing the hope to deepen cooperation with the Institute of Science Tokyo in areas such as energy, mechanical engineering, and dentistry. Naoto Ohtake presented an overview of Tokyo University of Science’s recent developments and international collaboration initiatives. The two sides conducted in-depth discussions on discipline development and international cooperation.
During the visit, MA Yanming also met with representatives of the Zhejiang University Alumni Association in Japan and attended the 29th International Conference on High Pressure Science and Technology in Matsuyama City, where he delivered a keynote speech.
