University of Toronto Associate Vice-President for International Partnerships visits Zhejiang University

On December 4, a delegation led by Professor Alex Mihailidis, Associate Vice-President for International Relations at the University of Toronto, paid a visit to Zhejiang University. The delegation was warmly received by ZHOU Jianghong, Vice President of Zhejiang University.

During the meeting, ZHOU Jianghong outlined Zhejiang University’s recent development, distinctive educational features and academic strengths. He highlighted the significant progress made in joint research and talent cultivation programs between the two universities in recent years, and reaffirmed Zhejiang University’s strong commitment to its partnership with the University of Toronto. Looking ahead, ZHOU Jianghong expressed the university’s eagerness to further expand two-way faculty and student exchanges; deepen cooperation in the fields of psychology, education, materials science, agriculture, and medicine, and enhance coordination in talent development and innovation ecosystems.

Mihailidis spoke highly of the achievements of bilateral cooperation and expressed confidence in the broad prospects for future collaboration. He emphasized that universities should remain committed to openness and cooperation despite global uncertainties. He proposed making full use of strategic partnership funding mechanisms to reinforce existing collaborations and expand cooperation in teaching, innovation, and entrepreneurship. He also pointed out that the two universities will jointly look ahead to a milestone year in 2027, when the University of Toronto will mark its 200th anniversary and Zhejiang University its 130th.

During the visit, representatives from the Department of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences, the College of Materials Science and Engineering, the College of Biosystems Engineering and Food Science presented updates on ongoing collaborative projects and shared plans for future cooperation. The two sides also identified key priorities for the next phase of partnership development. Earlier in the day, the delegation visited Zhejiang University’s International Campus, where a working meeting was held.

The visit underscored both universities’ shared commitment to advancing global academic collaboration, innovation, and talent cultivation.
