In May this year, The Zhejiang University BS/MPH Dual-Degree Program in public health was officially launched, giving undergraduate students the opportunity to earn a B.S. degree from ZJU and an M.P.H. degree from the YSPH in a five-year joint program. In a talk with SALOVEY, President WU Zhaohui expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Yale University for their generous support of education in China. They also exchanged ideas on challenges in tertiary education, the development strategies of the universities and how to deepen partnership.

“Globalization and the Fourth Industrial Revolution epitomized by the Internet and Artificial Intelligence put forward new demands for and instill new connotations into higher learning. In response to these, ZJU will bring into full play its comprehensive and innovative asset and promote cross-disciplinary and cross-border cooperation,” WU stressed.

“The current world is confronted with increasingly tough challenges, such as global warming and energy crisis. It calls for the concerted efforts of various nations all over the globe, in particular China and the United States as well as leading research-intensive universities in these two countries, to tackle these challenges. With a population of 1.3 billion, the healthcare work is both a challenge and an opportunity for China. It is projected that China’s public health will undergo expeditious development in the coming 10 years. The cooperation between ZJU and Yale in the field of public health has yielded some impressive fruits. I look forward to expanding our cooperation in this field and promoting the construction of the joint talent cultivation program and the joint research center, thereby making tremendous contributions to the development of public health in both countries,” Wu said.

“Yale enjoys time-honored cooperation with China and lays much emphasis on the collaboration with Chinese universities. I hope that we will launch a wide range of cooperation and exchange programs with ZJU,” Peter SALOVEY said. He also introduced the latest development of Yale. Apart from such top subjects as humanities, social sciences and life sciences, Yale will also pay special attention to the development of computer sciences, artificial intelligence and robotics so as to respond positively to the cutting-edge development of science and technology.

The delegation also held a talk about how to promote cooperation with the YSPH. The ZJU Department of Public Health and the YSPH signed a cooperation agreement.
