University launches art & archaeology education foundation

On the occasion of International Museum Day, “Zhang Xi Art and Archaeology Education Foundation” was set up at Zhejiang University. The Foundation will lend tremendous support to the construction and development of Zhejiang University Art and Archaeology Museum.

ZOU Xiaodong, Secretary of the CPC Committee of Zhejiang University, and ZHANG Xi, Chairman of the Development Committee of Zhejiang University, delivered speeches.

ZOU expressed his heartfelt gratitude to three eminent alumni—LV Jianming, WU Wanglou and LV Jiansheng—for their generous donations. “Zhejiang University will make every effort to build a first-class art and archeology museum and make more contributions to preserving traditional Chinese culture and promoting exchanges in human civilization,” ZOU stressed.

ZHANG reviewed the unforgettable experience of setting up the Art and Archaeology Museum. He also felt immensely grateful for alumni’s unselfish donations. “With the construction and development of the Art and Archaeology Museum, Zhejiang University will also thrive on rich historical and cultural nourishments on the basis of science, engineering, agronomy and medicine,” said ZHANG.

Zhejiang University aims at building the museum into an arena for the teaching of art history. Its primary mission is to support and promote the university’s teaching and research. It is committed to improving students’ aesthetical, visual and critical capabilities by means of the collection, teaching, research and exhibition of artistic works in the original.

The Foundation was also met with thunderous applause from various circles. Famous painters and calligraphers, including BAO Xianlun, BAI Qianshen, REN Ping, DONG Yahui, CHI Changqing, XUE Longchun, XU Hongliu, HU Xiaohan, SONG Yizhou, SHEN Huaqing, ZHU Yongling, LAN Honghai and GUO Biao, created special works for the establishment of the Foundation.
