At the invitation of the Organizing Committee of the World Economic Forum, Vice President YAN Jianhua, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine DUAN Shumin, Prof. HU Hailan and Prof. MA Huan attended the 2018 Annual Meeting of the New Champions (a.k.a. the Summer Davos) on September 18-20. It’s the foremost global summit on innovation, science and technology, promoting entrepreneurship in the global public interest. More than 2,000 participants from over 80 countries convened under the theme “Shaping Innovative Societies in the Fourth Industrial Revolution”.
On the morning of September 19, YAN Jianhua attended the University Leaders Dialogue and engaged in in-depth discussions with presidents of top universities from the United Kingdom, Canada, Singapore, Japan and Korea in regard to opportunities and challenges of middle class education globally. Since 1999, Zhejiang University has prioritized entrepreneurship in teaching reform and integrated innovation and entrepreneurship education into talent cultivation, thereby turning out a galaxy of leading entrepreneurs and innovators and incubating a host of innovative enterprises.

On the afternoon of September 19, Zhejiang University co-chaired an IdeasLab under the theme of “New Approaches to Improving Mental Health”. This session was moderated by Joe Palca, Science Correspondent at NPR. “Zhejiang University will bring into full play its multi-disciplinarity, promote the fusion of brain science and artificial intelligence, drive forward innovative applications in such fields as diagnosis and treatment of brain diseases, intelligent medicine, smart city, digital economy and education, and lead the development of intelligence and health industries,” said YAN Jianhua in his welcoming address. In this session, DUAN Shumin, HU Hailan and MA Huan shared with the participants their dazzling breakthroughs in brain science in terms of sleep regulation, the brain mechanism of high-speed anti-depression drugs and the molecular mechanism of learning memory.
