TU Dezhan, a third-year master’s student majoring in control science and engineering, wins the China’s University Student of the Year 2018 Award for his exceptional work and dedication to research into the leakage detection system for urban water supply pipelines.
TU Dezhan is assiduous and perseverant. While preparing for the “Challenge Cup” Competition of Science and Technology, he committed himself to acquiring a totally new 3D modeling framework on his own in order to improve the human-computer interactive experience. He cracked this hard nut within a short time and became the recipient of the Top Award.
TU Dezhan is also innovative and open-minded. He led his team to make constant endeavors on technology transfer and propose a solution to detecting the leakage of urban water supply pipelines. The pipeline robot developed by his start-up company can detect minor leakages in the pipeline, thereby reducing the pipeline leakage rate to below 10 percent.

TU Dezhan initiated and set up Zhejiang University Smart City Inter-disciplinary Innovation Club. He has organized and supported several elite teams to participate in various science and technology competitions. His club members have clinched more than 10 important awards, including the Special Gold Medal at the 46th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva.
