Zhejiang University strengthens ties with Hangzhou city

The Work Conference on Deepening Cooperation Between Hangzhou City and Zhejiang University in the New Era was held in Hangzhou Civic Center on June 24. The conference focused on joint missions in the new era, reviewed the strategic partnership in recent years and formulated explicit plans for the next phase in the hope of achieving new success in terms of strategic cooperation.

ZHOU Jiangyong, secretary of the CPC Hangzhou Municipal Committee, REN Shaobo, secretary of the CPC Zhejiang University Committee, and WU Zhaohui, president of Zhejiang University, attended the conference and delivered speeches. DAI Jianping, executive vice mayor of Hangzhou Muncipal Government, and WU Zhaohui signed an agreement on deepening comprehensive strategic cooperation in the new era, which covers 93 items in “2019-2020 Action Plan” and 66 items in “Five-year Work Plan”.

“We should develop new domains, media, platforms and projects and cooperate with each other at a higher level in a comprehensive, enduring and stable manner. We should also integrate an active government with an effective market so as to ensure more fruitful yields in strategic partnership in the new era,” said ZHOU Jiangyong.

“The story behind the ‘first-tier’ city and the ‘first-class’ university is a mutually nourishing and empowering process between Hangzhou City and Zhejiang University. Today, we’re entering into a brand-new era in terms of comprehensive strategic partnership, but we aim high,” REN Shaobo remarked, “I suggest that both sides should strengthen strategic planning, promote synergy and focus on key areas.”

“Cities and universities have increasingly become a close-knit community of shared development and future. Zhejiang University and Hangzhou City need to strive for the common first-class goal and cater to the first-tier strategic requirement,” said WU Zhaohui. He also expressed his cordial hope that both sides will reach a new stage for global development from a broader perspective, embark on a new journey for the Yangtze River Delta development with greater determination, and witness a new speed in ‘building a moderately prosperous society at a high level’ and ‘boosting the socialist modernization drive at a high level’.

At the conference, the Hangzhou and Zhejiang University Strategic Cooperation Promotion Committee reported to the participants on the previous work and the future mission in innovation & entrepreneurship, talent cultivation, infrastructure construction, healthcare, technology transfer, development of International Scientific Innovation Center and West Hangzhou Scientific Innovation Corridor.
