With the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City inscribed onto the UNESCO World Heritage list during the 43rd session of the World Heritage Committee, attention has been immensely drawn to this ancient and vigorous land. Liangzhu Civilization Series, which made its debut at Zhejiang University on the morning of July 7, is to lift “the mysterious veil” of this new world heritage.

Liangzhu Civilization Series is published by Zhejiang University Press and compiled by Zhejiang Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology. It includes 11 volumes covering the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City, the archaeological process, Liangzhu jade and pottery, and Liangzhu Civilization and world civilizations.

“The Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City are rich in cultural legacies. Zhejiang University has organized a series of lectures and exhibitions so far, thus playing a positive role in disseminating and promoting Liangzhu Civilization. I hope that Zhejiang University students will engage in archaeological research so as to make more contributions to preserving cultural heritages in Zhejiang Province,” said CHU Ziyu, director of the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism.

“Preserving culture is one of the missions for universities. We should play a crucial role in cultural research, talent cultivation, services and international partnership. Liangzhu Civilization Series and the exhibition of “Liangzhu Civilization Towards the World” will tell the stories of Liangzhu Civilization to the general public and enable them to appreciate its value,” said LUO Weidong, vice president of Zhejiang University.

The exhibition of “Liangzhu Civilization Towards the World”, officially launched at Zhejiang University, is set to be staged in universities across the nation.
