ZJU Vice President HE Lianzhen meets with Consul General of Uruguay in Shanghai

Prof. HE Lianzhen, vice president of Zhejiang University, met with a delegation led by Marcelo Clovis Magnou Pérez, Consul General of Uruguay in Shanghai, who paid a visit to Zhejiang University on September 2. Also present at the meeting were Prof. WANG Zhongming at the School of Management, Assoc. Prof. LU Yun at the School of International Studies, and Ms. AI Ni, Deputy Director of the Office of Global Engagement.

HE Lianzhen extended her warm welcome to the Consul General and his delegation. She introduced the University’s academic characteristics, global strategy and international cooperation. “Zhejiang University attaches great importance to cooperation with universities and institutions all over the world. We are willing to deepen friendly relations with Uruguay and expand cooperation in multiple domains, thereby making joint contributions to sustainable development,” said Prof. He.

Marcelo Magnou expressed his delight in visiting Zhejiang University and lauded the achievements that Zhejiang University has made. He stressed the critical role of higher education in promoting national development and looked forward to establishing partnership with top Chinese universities, including Zhejiang University, in the field of teaching and research, so that more Uruguayan youth can grow into outstanding talents for the development of Uruguay.

Prof. WANG Zhongming and Assoc. Prof. LU Yun introduced innovation & entrepreneurship education and Spanish teaching & research at Zhejiang University respectively. They expressed their willingness to enhance exchanges and expand the scope of cooperation with Uruguayan universities.

Uruguay is located in the southeast of South America and its capital is Montevideo. Diplomatic relations between China and Uruguay were first established in 1988. China and Uruguay established a strategic partnership in 2016, and signed a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative in 2018.
