Abstract: Prof. Yang is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a member of the Third World Academy of Sciences, and a Foreign Member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering. From 2013 to 2017, he served as the Director of the National Science Foundation, China. He was President of Zhejiang University from 2006 to 2012. Prior to joining Zhejiang University, he served as a member of the China Ministry of Education. In 2009, he was elected President of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities. Prof. Yang is the first to put forward the concept of X-Mechanics and is a pioneer in the fields of fracture mechanics, meso-/micro- mechanics, and mechatronic reliability.
