Graduation is a time of celebration, reflection, and transition. It is a time to look back on all what the graduates have accomplished with pride and to look forward to what lies ahead with anticipation.

On June 25, more than 6,000 graduates from around Zhejiang University attended the commencement ceremony held on Zijingang Campus. The celebratory moment marked the culmination of years of their diligence and determination.

President DU Jiangfeng extended his best wishes to the graduates and delivered a speech. In his speech, he made complimentary remarks about the achievements the graduates made at Zhejiang University. As he said, some made their mark in the scientific field, some won gold medals in major competitions both at home and abroad, and some committed themselves to rural revitalization. Meanwhile, he also offered the graduates three pieces of advice. First, they should care about their family and the country, harbor concerns for humanity, and have broad minds, thereby making due contributions to building a strong country and promoting the progress of human civilization. Second, they should maintain their quest of knowledge, enhance their sense of urgency in updating their knowledge pool, hone their ability to use various tools in the intelligent era, and expand their vision in grasping the development trend of the times, thereby accomplishing something in their own field. Third, they should have the courage to grow up in the grassroots of society, thereby pushing the limits of what’s possible and creating a rich and fulfilling life.

WANG Jianyu, a CAS Fellow from the CAS Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics and a ZJU alumnus, took the stage to give the graduates his advice from his over 40-year career. “Opportunity favors the prepared. You should never give up easily. Success lies in one more effort you put in. You should set goals and stay true to your ideals, thus injecting vitality into your life,” WANG said.

GAO Weiming from the College of Environmental & Resource Sciences spoke on behalf of the graduates. “We were like a drop of water when setting foot in ‘Qiushi Yard’ 4 years ago. Now, we will set sail from this haven for different destinations. We will answer the question of the times with our action,” GAO said.

Parting is for a better reunion. We hope that each and every graduate will become a dazzling star in the galaxy in the future.
