Under the rain-kissed sky on August 28, Zhejiang University ignited the spirits of the incoming Class of 2027 on Zijingang Campus. With the blessings of their mentors, family, and friends, another cohort of ambitious ZJUers embarked on their journey of dreams and excellence.

DU Jiangfeng, president of Zhejiang University, delivered a welcoming address that resonated with both encouragement and advice for the students in navigating the global landscape marked by competition and cooperation. He laid out three essential expectations: cultivating a sense of mission in learning to contribute to the nation, fostering innovative prowess through continuous exploration, and embracing a global mindset to nurture empathy and inclusiveness.

"I hope that you will live up to the times, make the most of your youth, cultivate great aspirations, exhibit high moral character, and shoulder great responsibilities. By doing so, you will craft a splendid life chapter within the Qiushi Yard," Du Jiangfeng said.

“We should strive to acquire outstanding abilities to serve the nation, and be worthy of the motherland, the people, and the era,” said XIE Ziyin, the executive president of the Student Union and a member of the Class of 2024. She urged the incoming students to spread their wings in the face of unknown and ascend to great heights.

On behalf of the freshmen, SHI Qixu from the Turing Class at Chu Kochen Honors College shared his vision. “At this new starting point, we will uphold the motto of seeking truth and pursuing innovation, work diligently and humbly, embrace changes and craft genuine skills with wisdom and courage. We shall carry forward the legacy of serving the nation and its people and lead purposeful and fulfilling lives,” said SHI Qixu.

“The vast sea contains all streams, all rivers; Great learning connects Heaven and Earth…” Amidst the echoes of the resonant alma mater, the sea of lights in the audience harmonized with the vibrant faces of the youth. Together, they composed a visual symphony, marking the inauguration of the Class of 2027 into the ZJU community.
