Reflections on my scientific career devoted to exploring the quantum world with light

2023-11-07
Date: 2023-11-10 14:30:00
Time: 14:30-16:00
Venue: Qiushi Great Hall, Zijingang Campus
Speaker:
Category: Talk & Lecture

Speaker: Prof. Dr. Serge Haroche (the winner of the 2012 Nobel Prize in Physics)

Host: Prof. LIN Haiqing (Dean, School of Physics)

Venue: Qiushi Great Hall, Zijingang Campus

Abstract: In his spontaneous exchange with students and researchers at Zhejiang University, Prof. Dr. Serge Haroche will talk about how his vocation as a physics researcher came about. He will then share his fascination with the research in atomic physics and optics. After that, he will delve into the contributions of the great scientists. He will show that the history of light illustrates the essential aspects of the scientific method. Finally, he will talk about recent advances in the science of light, and the progress of instruments that use light to explore matter and the universe with ever greater precision.

Registration: The number of participants is limited to 200. Please scan the QR code below to register before 18:00 on Nov. 8. If the number of applicants is beyond the capacity, the organisers will do a random screening. Students will receive a confirmation text message for the success of the registration.

Note: Five copies of Professor Haroche's new book Exploring the Light from Galileo to Quantum Physics (Chinese version) are prepared as gifts for active participants.
