Zhejiang University has taken significant strides in bolstering its collaborative efforts with the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). Led by REN Shaobo, Chairman of the Zhejiang University Council, a high-level delegation embarked on a visit to SUTD April 21 to 22.

The pinnacle of this visit was marked by a momentous event on the afternoon of April 22, where REN Shaobo and Chong Tow Chong, President of SUTD, came together in the presence of the esteemed Ministers of Education from both nations to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement, heralding the onset of the third phase of collaboration, bears testament to a concerted effort by both universities to explore the realms of design and entrepreneurship, aiming to pioneer innovative models for joint talent cultivation.
On the morning of April 22, REN Shaobo and his delegation engaged in fruitful discussions with President Chong Tow Chong and Phoon Kok Kwang, President-elect and Provost of SUTD. REN Shaobo emphasized the longstanding friendship between the two universities, saying that close cooperation over the past decade has facilitated valuable exchanges among faculty and students. He expressed his vision for the forthcoming phase of cooperation to build upon past successes, identify emerging areas for growth, and collectively strive for a brighter future. Chong Tow Chong echoed these sentiments, expressing anticipation for exploring innovative approaches to leveraging design, artificial intelligence, and related technologies to address challenges in sustainable development.

To gain a detailed understanding of SUTD’s endeavors in cutting-edge technologies, REN Shaobo and his delegation visited the DesignZ Center, the next generation Design Centre, and the AerialArena@SUTD, a first-of-its-kind arena that supports the flight testing of drone-related projects.

The delegation also convened with the Zhejiang University Alumni Association of Singapore (ZUAAS), where REN Shaobo conveyed heartfelt greetings and sincere concerns to the alumni community. He highlighted the university’s constantly burgeoning global prestige in recent years, attributing it to the remarkable contributions of its alumni worldwide. REN Shaobo expressed his hope that ZUAAS would further follow in the spirit of seeking truth, bolster alumni development, and serve as a bridge linking the alma mater and the global community.
The visit of the Zhejiang University delegation to SUTD marks a new era of collaborative innovation and academic synergy poised to shape the future of education and research on a global scale.
