On June 22, the Class of 2024 at Zhejiang University stepped into the sunlight of commencement. It was a momentous day when over 6,000 graduates assembled on Zijingang Campus, standing at the helm of their futures. With hearts full and spirits high, they poised themselves to embark on the grand voyage from the hallowed halls of Zhejiang University, into the boundless expanse of their awaiting lives.

President DU Jiangfeng extended heartfelt congratulations and his deepest wishes for the journey ahead to the graduates. In his speech titled “Navigating the vast seas of life: A journey of steadiness and vision,” he affectionately addressed the students, “In the prime of your life, as vibrant and melodious as a symphony, as you steer the boat of life away from the safe harbor of your alma mater, you will inevitably sail into the uncharted waters of the future, feeling that tempests of impetuosity, waves of anxiety, and mists of confusion may at times possess your spirit. It is therefore essential that you should master the art of navigating through the fog, hold steady the rudder of your youth, and boldly chart a course toward the luminous shores of your dreams. Not only should you hone your ability to pinpoint and break new grounds, but you should also foster the resilience to weather storms of adversity, embracing the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead with confidence.”

HUANG He, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Vice President of Nanjing Normal University, addressed the gathering as a representative of the alumni. Drawing upon his own learning experience at Zhejiang University, he conveyed his deep gratitude for the mentorship and support he received from his respected teachers, an influence he cherishes and uses as inspiration to imbue his teaching with a spirit of seeking truth and pursuing innovation. He expressed his sincere gratitude towards Zhejiang University for his growth and expressed his warmest wishes for the flourishing futures of his younger peers, encouraging them to living up to their prime years.

YANG Jinwen, a distinguished graduate from the School of International Studies, shared insights from her academic journey. “As we venture beyond the realms of Qiushi Garden, the pivotal decision from 0 to 1 will invariably manifest itself before us. Amidst the flux of being constantly molded, tempered, and transformed by the environment, I hope that we steadfastly remain resilient idealists. With courage, let’s spread our arms to the uncertainties of life in welcome, illuminating the path of truth as radiant beacons precisely where our nation requires us the most,” she expressed.

Departure marks the dawn of a new odyssey. May you soar like Qiushi eagles into the vastness of boundless skies. May you, brilliant as sparkling stars, cast your radiant beams far and wide wherever you are.
