Zhejiang University's International Campus was abuzz with excitement as it marked the conclusion of the second LEAP Global Summer Program. The ceremony was presided over by LI Hanying, Dean of the International Campus, who also delivered a heartfelt closing address.

Initiated in 2023 by ZIBS, the LEAP Global Summer Program is designed to foster international youth interaction by immersing participants in language learning, cultural exchanges, academic explorations, and practical experiences. This summer, it attracted around 22 students from the USA and Italy, and 11 from ZJU.

Over the course of the fourteen-day program, participants dived into an enriching curriculum that included academic lectures, intensive language classes, and diverse cultural activities.

Beginners in the Chinese language tackled the basics of pinyin and character formation, mastering essential pronunciation techniques. More advanced students took on practical language applications like resume writing and interview skills in Chinese. The academic side was further bolstered by the lectures from esteemed professors: LIU Ying delivered Intercultural Competence, ZHAO Yupei presented Media China, and WEN Wu discussed Fintech and Sustainability.

The curriculum extended beyond the classroom with several corporate and organizational visits, enabling students to witness the operations of top Chinese enterprises firsthand. Cultural outings and field trips offered them a deeper appreciation of Chinas rich historical tapestry and contemporary cultural dynamics.

Participants expressed profound impacts from their experiences. Roan McAuley from the USA reflected on the program's transformative nature, noting, It's definitely changed a lot of what I knew, and my experiences here have been both impactful and fascinating. Chiara Innocenti from Italy was equally enthusiastic, saying, This program has surpassed every expectation. I've learned a lot, not always the language, but also things from Chinese culture.

Gabriel Price, also from the USA, shared his future aspirations influenced by the program. Now my view of China is much more holistic. I want to approach my future career in whether it's politics or international agencies to try to foster peace and prosperity,” he said.

Although this year's summer school session lasted only two weeks, the profound experiences and the bonds formed promise lasting impacts. Zhejiang University looks forward to welcoming future students to continue this journey of academic and cultural exploration, hoping to see many familiar faces LEAP forward in their next visit.
