On May 13, Professor MA Yanming, President of Zhejiang University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, met with Jacques Frémont, President of the University of Ottawa, and his delegation at the Zijingang Campus. The two sides held in-depth discussions on strengthening institutional collaboration.

President Ma extended a warm welcome to the delegation and shared an overview of Zhejiang University’s mission and global strategy. He emphasized ZJU’s strong commitment to global engagement and highlighted the university’s close partnerships with Canadian institutions—including the University of Ottawa—in fields such as engineering, computer science, environmental governance, and clinical medicine. President Ma expressed hope that the two universities would build on their existing ties to deepen faculty and student exchanges, expand research collaboration, and launch new joint initiatives that address global challenges while advancing cultural and scientific exchange between China and Canada.

President Frémont thanked ZJU for its hospitality and outlined the University of Ottawa’s efforts to strengthen its partnerships in China. He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to advancing scientific progress and youth development through international cooperation and noted plans to encourage more Canadian students to study in China. Frémont voiced enthusiasm for expanding academic exchanges and tackling shared challenges—such as AI governance—through joint efforts.

During the meeting, ZJU Vice President ZHOU Jianghong introduced the university’s SDG Global Summer School and other international programs.
